8 ways Jesus defeated Satan .

8 WAYS JESUS DEFEATED THE DEVIL

God pronounced sentence on the Devil in the Garden of Eden.

I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; He will strike your head, and you will strike His heel (Genesis 3:15).

The offspring of the woman would someday crush the serpent's head. This was a prophecy of the coming of the Messiah - Jesus Christ. When Jesus came to earth, He came as the last Adam - the last perfect man.

Thus it is written, "The first man, Adam, became a living being"; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit (1 Corinthians 15:45).

The first Adam miserably failed and brought sin into the world, but the last Adam succeeded in defeating sin and Satan in the following ways.

1. His Silent Years

Jesus defeated Satan in His silent years. Though He gave no sermons, performed no miracles, and was unknown to the public, He lived all these years without sin, doing everything that was pleasing to God the Father. At His baptism, the Father said of Jesus.

and behold, a voice out of the heavens, said, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased (Matthew 3:17).

The Father was well-pleased with His Son.

2. The Temptation

Jesus did not succumb to the temptation of the Devil (Matthew 4:1-11). Though Satan tested Jesus in various ways, there was no giving in to these temptations. Scripture says of Jesus:

For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but one that has been in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15).

And you know that He was manifested to take away sins; and in Him is no sin (1 John 3:5).

3. Throughout His Public Ministry

Jesus was tempted during His public ministry - by those who believed in Him, such as Simon Peter (Matthew 16:22,23), and by those who did not believe in Him, such as His brothers and the religious rulers.

Tempted By His Half-Brothers

His half-brothers tempted Jesus to reveal Himself as the Messiah before the appointed time.

So His brothers said to Him, "Leave here and go to Judea so that Your disciples also may see the works You are doing; for no one who wants to be widely known acts in secret. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world." (For not even His brothers believed in Him.) (John 7:3-5).

The religious leaders tempted Jesus, for the purpose of bringing charges against Him.

They said this to test Him, so that they might have some charge to bring against Him. Jesus bent down and wrote with His finger on the ground (John 8:6).

All of these attempts failed. At the end of His public ministry, Jesus was still without sin. He asked His disciples.

Which of you convicts Me of sin? If I say truth, why do you not believe Me? (John 8:46).

4. At The Cross

Satan was also defeated by Jesus at the cross. Shortly before His death, Jesus said:

the ruler of this world has been judged (John 16:11).

5. Resurrection

Not only did Jesus give His life for the sins of the world, He rose from the dead-breaking Satan's power over fallen humanity.

Since, therefore, the children share flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared the same things, so that through death He might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the Devil (Hebrews 2:14).

6. Lives Of Believers

Finally, Jesus has defeated Satan through the lives of those who have believed in Him.

Who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of the Son of His love (Colossians 1:13).

The Bible says that believers look forward to the time when Satan's defeat will be for all to see.

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you (Romans 16:20).

7. Second Coming

When Christ comes again, He will have Satan bound and placed into the pit.

And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key of the abyss and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, the old serpent, which is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years (Revelation 20:1,2).

8. The Lake Of Fire - The Ultimate Judgment

Eventually, Satan will be cast into the lake of fire, marking the final end to his inglorious career.

And the Devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and sulfur, where are also the beast and the false prophet; and they shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever (Revelation 20:10).

FIGHTING WITH THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD.

Fighting with the whole armor of God

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” Ephesians 6:13.

We have to be alert, have our defenses up, and launch a full-blown attack to send him running! A person wearing the armor of God is not slack or indifferent to the forces that he knows will come. He is anticipating an attack; he is vigilant!

“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit …” Ephesians 6:14-18.

Girded with truth

The truth girds the one who employs it. No one can catch such a person in a lie. Because there is liberating power in each and every truth, the one who walks in the truth in all his ways will be set free. A lie, no matter how “little,” gives the powers of darkness an opening for attack, but the truth chases them far away.

Clothed with the breastplate of righteousness

Truth and righteousness are very closely related. The accusations of Satan “roll off” personal righteousness like water off a duck’s back. The powers of darkness stand ready to attack us at the least sign of unrighteousness. Unrighteousness gives Satan power over the one who practices it.

Jesus said, “For the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.” John 14:30. He was entitled to say this because He was clothed with the breastplate of righteousness. May the same thing be said of us when Satan tries to sift us like wheat!

Preparation for battle

“… and having shod your feet with the preparation for battleAlmost all talk of battles and wars when concerning a Christian life refers to the inner battle that arises when a sinful thought tempts you. God’s Spirit and the flesh are at odds. When you have decided to only do God’s will and are being led by the Spirit, a conflict between the flesh and the Spirit arises: there is... More that the gospel of peace provides.” Ephesians 6:15.

We don’t get very far walking with bare feet on glass and sharp stones, let alone trying to fightAlmost all talk of battles and wars when concerning a Christian life refers to the inner battle that arises when a sinful thought tempts you. God’s Spirit and the flesh are at odds. When you have decided to only do God’s will and are being led by the Spirit, a conflict between the flesh and the Spirit arises.
The gospel of peace has the inherent ability to prepare us for battle. But even though it is readily available, we ourselves need to start using it, as in all things.

The shield of faith

Faith always goes against our lusts. In every temptation, Satan sends his flaming darts into our mind, which has the power to decide whether we will obey God or give in to the lusts of the fleshThe desires that we experience that go against God’s will. In other words, a desire for anything sinful.
When Abraham went to Mount Moriah to sacrifice his son Isaac, Satan’s flaming darts might well have come at him in the form of words like these: “What do you think Sarah will say? Her heart will probably break, and that will be the sad end of a long and happy married life together. You’ll be a murderer – yes, a murderer twice over. You must have misunderstood; a loving God could not possibly have given such a commandment!”

That’s how Satan preaches when a soul sets out to do a work of faith. In the position Abraham was in, every word would have struck him like a flaming dart. And yet, Abraham had not heard wrong; he acted with boldness and valor because God had said it, and we all know what happened – Satan’s flaming darts simply glanced off the shield of faith.

The helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit

The spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places are only too happy to make trouble for believers, when given the chance. But the helmet of salvation is hard and resistant to everything that rains down upon it from the air.

A jubilant soul doesn’t become despondent. It is the one who is downcast who is at risk. Discouragement is unbelief, but unbelief is faith in the power of Satan. Once you begin to believe in unbelief, everything goes wrong. So, in faith and confidence, pull the helmet of salvation tightly down upon your head, and lay hold of the sword of the Spirit!

David’s strength was not especially great, but by faith he put a stone in his slingshot and hurled it toward Goliath. A preacher once said that if Goliath’s forehead had been 10 meters thick, the stone would still have penetrated. I think so too! When used in its sharpness, and when administered by an enlightened understanding in the full assurance of faith, the sword of the Spirit can put whole armies of evil spirits to flight. But no one can use the sword of the Spirit victoriously without having put on the rest of the armor of God.

Praying always in the Spirit.

Prayer in the Spirit will give us far more than we could ever ask or think. One who is unaccustomed to praying must, from the very outset, simply discipline himself to pray. Later on, the Spirit Himself will work in him to pray. The Spirit works in us to pray inwardly – without words. But then He conveys these prayers of the heart to the realm of our understanding, to be employed by that understanding. Such unceasing prayer increases our content of life and multiplies our treasures in heaven. Patience and meekness then seem to come naturally, because the Lord is near.

With all of the full armor of God on, it is entirely possible for us to “be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might!” #Austinchinedu

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS (Six ways to quench the Spirit)

Fire Extinguishers

DO NOT QUENCH THE SPIRIT FIRE
"1THESS 5:19 Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit;"

Do not allow the enemy to quench the fire in you, he uses his fiery darts, discouragement, weakness, challenges, oppositions.... OVERRIDE them through effectual fervent prayers..

The apostle Paul warned us not to "quench" the Spirit in 1 Thessalonians 5:19. "Quench" means to extinguish a fire.
If the apostle Paul himself had not warned us about quenching the Spirit, who among us would have thought it was possible (1 Thessalonians 5:19–22)? To suggest that the omnipotent Spirit of God could ever be quenched, and thus restricted in what he might do otherwise in our lives, and in the life of the local church, is to tread on thin theological ice.
I fear that today our trendy churches have been equipped with state-of-the-art fire extinguishers that do a professional job of eliminating any risk of a holy outbreak. Let's be mindful of the most common ways that we quench the Holy Spirit.

SIX WAYS WE QUENCH THE HOLY SPIRIT FIRE.

1. We quench the Holy Spirit when we rely decisively on any resource other than the Holy Spirit for anything we do in life and ministry.

Any attempt to conjure up “hope” apart from that power which is the Spirit (Romans 15:13) is to quench him, as well as  any attempt to resolve to carry out some good work of faith through a “power” other than the Spirit is to quench him (2 Thessalonians 1:11).

2. We quench the Spirit whenever we diminish his personality and speak of him as if he were only an abstract power or source of divine energy.

Some envision the Spirit as if he were no more than an ethereal energy, the divine equivalent to an electric current: stick your finger of faith into the socket of his “anointing presence” and you’ll experience a spiritual shock of biblical proportions! The result is that any talk of experiencing the Spirit is summarily dismissed as dishonoring to his exalted status as God and a failure to embrace his sovereignty over us rather than ours over him.

3. We quench the Spirit whenever we suppress or legislate against his work of imparting spiritual gifts and ministering to the church through them.

Every gift of the Spirit is in its own way a “manifestation” of the Holy Spirit himself (1 Corinthians 12:7). The Spirit is made manifest or visibly evident in our midst whenever the gifts are in use. Spiritual gifts are the presence of the Spirit himself coming to relatively clear, even dramatic, expression in the way we do ministry.

“Spiritual gifts are the presence of the Spirit himself coming to relatively clear, even dramatic, expression.”

4. We quench the Spirit whenever we create an inviolable and sanctimonious structure in our corporate gatherings and worship services, and in our small groups, that does not permit spontaneity or the special leading of the Spirit.

5. We quench the Spirit whenever we despise prophetic utterances (1 Thessalonians 5:20).

No matter how badly people may have abused the gift of prophecy, it is disobedient to Scripture — in other words, a sin — to despise prophetic utterances. God commands us not to treat prophecy with contempt, as if it were unimportant.

“We quench the Holy Spirit when we rely on any resource other than him for anything we do in life and ministry.”

“No matter how badly some have abused prophecy, it is disobedient to Scripture to despise prophetic utterances.”

6. We quench the fire when we live in secret sin, habitual sin, spiritual weakness, prayerlessness (lack of effectual fervent prayers), lack of bible studies, ungodly relationship, disobedience to the truth, out of God's will, self, lies and hypocrisy, following false prophets and prophecies, falsehold, unforgiveness, malice, discouragement, anger and wrath, negetive confessions, doubt, Lack of faith, ( not walk by faith). And many more, all these are fire extinguishers.. They quench the fire of God in us.

Let's throw away our fire extinguishers and invite a fresh heavenly flame to engulf our lives.
May I urge you to carefully search your own heart and assess the possible ways in which you may have quenched the Spirit in your own life and in the experience of your local church? Yielding to and making room for the Spirit’s work in our midst is not to be feared but fostered. May God grant us both the wisdom and confidence in his goodness to facilitate a greater and more life-changing experience of the Spirit’s transforming fire. #AustinChinedu
